The US dollar, inspired largely by plunging oil prices and growing pessimism over the economic health of the EU and the U.K, is going gangbusters of late.
It traded at $1.4455 Wednesday, a seven-month high against the euro.

Hurricane Gustav is set to bring cheers to the battered oil and commodities market as it heads towards the Gulf of Mexico. Oil prices briefly touched $119.63 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange before falling back to $118.15 a barrel Wednesday.

The Singapore Mercantile Exchange (SMX), slated to begin operations in about nine months, will offer futures and options trading in Asian time zone on precious metals, base metals, energy, agricultural commodities, currency pairs, carbon credits and commodity indices.

If you look at the Dow Jones yesterday, it seems like the sky has fallen.
Oil rises $10.75 to $138.54, jobless rates spike to 5.5% as compared to April’s 5% (biggest one-month surge in over 20 years), consumer debt jumps to $8.9 billion, AIG gets investigated by SEC while other blue-chips fell like nine-pins.

In the last bull market, some financial analysts and economists debunked the existence of traditional business cycles.
