Dow Jones Rally By 331 points

Posted by Jeflin on August 5, 2008

The Straits Time Index was down 15.57 points to close at 2860.51 Tuesday, a relatively muted response (fortunately) amid regional markets turbulence.

The stock market desperately needs a stimulus and what better than to see Dow Jones rallying by 331 points, reversing 3 consecutive loss sessions.

I expect stocks on the SGX to rally today and UOB gave me a pleasant surprise. Read the full article here.

Posted by Jeflin on July 12, 2008

It was a punitive end to a roller-coaster week. Dow Jones breached 11000 (a first time low in nearly two years) but pulled back to end at 11,100.54, losing 128 points. Standard & Poor’s 500 index lost 1.1% while Nasdaq composite shed 0.8% to remain above March lows.

Alan Greenspan’s Fraud And The Global Economic Mess

Posted by Jeflin on July 9, 2008

Yesterday, we enjoyed a joke about Alan Greenspan but I am going to adopt a more serious tone in this post.

My esteemed impression of Alan Greenspan, who once had the world cavorting and clinging on to his every word, took a dip after reading this book, “Greenspan’s Fraud: How Two Decades of His Policies Have Undermined the Global Economy.” The truth is disturbingly harsh.

The Good Old Days Of Alan Greenspan

Posted by Jeflin on July 8, 2008

Tongue in cheek…

Don’t you just miss the “good old days” of former Federal Chief, Alan Greenspan?

Look at how Bernanke is struggling to prop the economy and handle inflation. Things were much simpler during Greenspan’s days.

Posted by Jeflin on July 1, 2008

We all know the catch-22 situation facing the Federal Reserve… stagflation . A stagnant economy coupled with rocketing inflation.

At the rate oil is increasing, we can expect our daily products to double in prices within the next 2-3 years.

ST Index Still In Accumulation Stage

Posted by Jeflin on June 23, 2008

Since Wall Street shed 220 points to end at 11842.69 last Friday (a three-month low sparked by fears about credit market and inflation), I expected the sell-offs to spillover to Asian stock markets.

Indeed, regional bourses (Nikkei, Hang Seng, Shanghai, etc) were not spared from the destruction. The ST Index fell 22.66 points to close at 2979.15 on a sagging volume of 1.056 billion. Gainers/Losers stand at 177/337.

Bull Versus Bear Battle Rages On

Posted by Jeflin on June 5, 2008

Bull vs Bear battle rages on in the Singapore stock exchange. The Straits Times Index increased by a mere 9.09 points to 3143.89. Trading volume was weak at 1002.7 million. Gainers/Losers stood at 234/268.

To me, such a market performance is poor especially when we consider a multitude of positive news for the US economy.

Posted by Jeflin on June 3, 2008

The red ink continues for the second straight day on the Dow Jones, even the sprightly oil sector was not spared.

Oil prices was hit by a strengthening dollar after the Fed chairman, Bernanke said the economy remains under pressure, but he is unlikely to cut interest rates again soon.
