Are You Rattled By The Stock Market Crash?

Posted by Jeflin on October 11, 2008

stock market crash

The credit crunch is now the most critical challenge facing the US administrators and central banks around the world. Without loans to lubricate the system, perfectly sound businesses may not be able to meet short-term obligations, and consumers’ reluctance to purchase goods/services will force the economy into seizure with more shutdowns and rising unemployment.

Will Wall Street Learn From Lehman Brothers Bankruptcy?

Posted by Jeflin on September 16, 2008

Already, a Lehman Brothers bankruptcy implies a fire sales of its assets (stock, bonds, property and mortgage securities), depressing prices and forcing more write-downs by other banks and investment banks. In the coming months, we can expect tsunamis to test the foundations of the financial sector again.

Lehman Brothers

Why was Lehman, a 158-year old financial institution, which survived world wars, scandals, in-fighting, loss of its independence, finally shuttered? Read the full article here.

To Sell Or Hold Blue Chips In A Bear Market?

Posted by Jeflin on August 21, 2008

sell or hold blue chips in bear marketThe global economy is headed for a recession and the stock market decline is well underway – investors will not touch stocks with a barge pole. I do not foresee a stock market crash for SGX nor embattled Wall Street, but it is certainly a period of financial destruction if we are not careful.

At this point of time, I believe many investors are deliberating whether to sell their blue chips.

Tougher Times For Investors Ahead

Posted by Jeflin on August 8, 2008

On the eve of our National Day and the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, there is actually little to celebrate as an investor. The ST Index dropped 27.17 points to close at 2807.54, volume was weak at 1.041 billion while gainers/losers stand at 197/327.

COSCO Corp’s shares plunged 12.2% following the shock “retirement” of president Ji Hai Sheng. Read the full article here.

Wall Street Post Consecutive Gains

Posted by Jeflin on July 18, 2008

How long has it been since Wall Street posted consecutive gains? For nearly two weeks, we have seen a rebound only to be followed by more losses the following day.

Well, Wall Street broke out of their trance (posting more than 200 points gains in two sessions) but regional stock markets were still mixed in reaction.

Stock Markets Bearish Despite Tumbling Oil Prices

Posted by Jeflin on July 7, 2008

The ST Index closed Monday at 2934.12 after a slight rebound of 41.58 points. Regional markets performed strongly as well. But don’t get all excited just yet. A recovery depends very much on what surprises Wall Street have in store for us.

ST Index Still In Accumulation Stage

Posted by Jeflin on June 23, 2008

Since Wall Street shed 220 points to end at 11842.69 last Friday (a three-month low sparked by fears about credit market and inflation), I expected the sell-offs to spillover to Asian stock markets.

Indeed, regional bourses (Nikkei, Hang Seng, Shanghai, etc) were not spared from the destruction. The ST Index fell 22.66 points to close at 2979.15 on a sagging volume of 1.056 billion. Gainers/Losers stand at 177/337.

Will Investors Hold The Fort At Dow Jones?

Posted by Jeflin on June 19, 2008

Since opening this Monday, the bulls have taken flight at Dow Jones and the index is descending steadily towards March lows of 11850.

As I mentioned before, if investors can or are willing to hold the fort here, we can look forward to a sustained upswing for the next week or so, barring unforeseen disasters.

Dow Jones Rally Will Lift Local Stocks

Posted by Jeflin on June 9, 2008

After Wall Street’s deplorable results last Friday, the question for ST Index today is not a matter of battering but how much collateral damage we will be seeing.

An oversold rebound for the Dow Jones is in order here, could be early this week.

Concerns About Financial Sector Disrupt STI Charge

Posted by Jeflin on June 2, 2008

Monday, the STI breached the 3200 barrier before the break, but after resuming trading, it slided to end 4.75 points down at 3188.05.

Widespread anxiety was ignited by concerns about the financial sector after S&P cut its debt rating on Merrill Lynch, Lehman Brothers, and Morgan Stanley from “stable” to “negative.”
